Summer Break: July

Dearest Colt and Jackson,

Summer break seemed to officially start on July 1st and the month was ours to do as we pleased.  We soaked up the sun, our friends, and time together as a family and those are just a few reasons that July might be my favorite month of them all!

To start off, we had the Vaughns over for a mini-party on the 4th of July.  We spent time swimming, ate dinner, and then headed to see our town's fireworks (again in "our spot" and again from the bed of Justin's truck).

We hit up Zone Action Park where we played putt-putt and used the arcade cards we'd accrued.

We hosted this adorable group of swimmers again.

Jax, you had a few soccer practices.

And we ate a few s'mores at Gpa and Gma's house.

We also enjoyed an afternoon treat complete with a hilarious game.

You both attended camp one week.  Colt, you went to gymnastics camp from 8:30 - 1:30.

Jax, you attended baseball camp at Marcus from 9:00 - 12:00.
(You're in the neon green shorts.)

We took bike rides almost every day!  Interesting tidbit:  prior to this summer, you didn't really know how to ride a bike.  We could push you in the backyard and you could pedal a bit but that was it.  And, because you never asked about it, we never took the initiative to get your bike out and teach you.  Well we gave it a go at the beginning of the month and day one was rough.  There were lots of falls, tears, and feelings of defeat.  Day 2 showed improvement and it was only day 3 before you were off on your own.  You did have a hard crash last week and haven't asked to ride since then but I know you'll be back at it before long.  Now we probably need to get you a better fitting bike...

We traveled to Houston one weekend, which brings up another interesting point....  We were supposed to take a few days to go to the beach in Galveston.  While it's not a Florida beach by any means, we thought it could hold y'all over a bit.  Well, just a few weeks before we were to leave, the health department issued a warning to NOT swim in the water as it contained exceptionally high levels of....stuff you don't want to swim in.  So our plans changed and we spent the weekend with the Lake Fam instead.

Then we took advantage of Grandpa and Grandma's pool card and took some friends to one of their community pools.

The Fletchers hosted us in their fun backyard one evening.

This week, you participated in Flower Mound's soccer camp.

Colt, you were my awesome helper while brother was at camp!

We snuck in one more summer playdate with the Vaughns (since our vacation schedule has us separated for 16 days!) and went skating.
Colt, this was your very first time!

Jax, this was your 2nd time but it still proved tricky.  I think we might need to practice more than once every six months for you to become proficient.

And our final July day was spent at a nearby water park with our closest buddies.

Then, I had to admit that August is coming in a few hours...
---Moment of Silence, please---
So we went backpack shopping tonight.

If a genie appeared before me, one of my wishes FOR SURE would be an extra month between July and August.  I selfishly want a few more weeks together just like these last few.  Homeschooling isn't sounding too shabby right now....

Summer Break: June

Dearest Boys,

As you saw in earlier blogs, swimming and baseball consumed the first part of our summer.  June was packed with practices, games, and meets!  So, when we did get some down time,  we relaxed to the max!  My phone/camera wasn't there for everything...but here's an overview:

Summer kicked off with a trip to the Byron Nelson golf tournament for you & Dad.

We also took a quick trip to the Arboretum.

We visited the CAC (the local community center with a popular outdoor water park).  We went for a birthday party and it was your first time to ever go to the outdoor part.  (I was hesitant to take you for fear that you'd start preferring it over the "water park" in our backyard!)

We spent one night slip-n-sliding across the Vaughn's backyard recreating the exact same fun from last summer.

Then we hosted our own water fun and had our clique over to swim.

The Fletcher Fam joined us another night.

There were also silly dance parties at Grandpa and Grandma's house...

A movie date to see the most touching movie of the summer...

A few Target runs...

A lunch & library date with these besties...

And futsal camp for you, Jax.

The icing on the cake was the day Dad took off of work and we all went to Six Flags!

June was one of those months where I look back and ask myself, "What happened?!"  It was fun in one of those fast & furious kind of ways.  Thanks for keeping us young, kiddos!
